Rare and complicated backbone operations at Stradins Hospital

 

May 19, In collaboration with European colleagues Petr Vanek from Prague Military hospital (the Czech Republic) arrived at Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital Neurosurgery clinic to perform backbones stabilization operations. He operated two young Latvian patients with rarely observed backbones deformations.

“50 years with the Stradins name” – Memorial Exhibition

On August 18, 2008 the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital will commemorate the 50 years since it was given the name of Prof. Pauls Stradins. Everybody is welcomed to take part in the memorial festivities by laying flowers at the Pauls Stradins monument on Hospital grounds at 11 o`clock and latter, at 11:45 - open The Memorial Exhibition at the assembly hall. The Memorial Exhibition will be opened from August 18 to September 18, 2008.

 

On August 18, 1958 the Cabinet of Ministers agreed to rename the Clinical Hospita in the name of Prof. Pauls Strdins. To commemorate this significant event, a special exhibition will be held at the Hospital. This exhibition will be an opportunity for today's generation to get to know Prof. Pauls Stradins a little bit closer; to hear his voice, see him in film, documents, pictures and paintings.

The family of Prof. Pauls Stradins will also take part in these events as well as his former students, the Hospital Board, staff, invited guests and colleagues from other medical institutions in Latvia will be attending.

At the opening of the exhibition Prof. Evalds Ezerietis, a surgeon and a former student of Prof. Stradiņš, will be honored. Prof. Ezerietis has received the Pauls Stradins award from the Latvian Academy of Science, and is a significant contributor to the development of the Hospital Surgery Clinic.

 

The second event, dedicated to the remembrance of Prof. Pauls Stradins, will be held in the autumn - November 1st, when the scientific conference "Stradini - future hospital" will be held in Riga. The conference will review the medical accomplishments during these 50 years and honor the greatest contributors of the generation, but the emphasis of the conference will be on the future of the Hospital; work methods and patients care, etc.
